  • Tube Amp + Line 6 Modeling Technology = Line 6 Spider Valve

Although a Vox AC30(or AC15) is still the dream amp I’d like to own, this Line 6 Spider Valve sounds very interesting. Maybe I’ll be able to give it a run at a music store sometime soon. The idea of combining Line 6 modeling technology with a real tube amp (not a hybrid) seems like a pretty decent selling point to me. I’m a fan of their Delay and Modulation Modelers and they’ve gotten plenty of use of my pedal board (and will continue to do so) so the ability to combine the sound, feel and tone of a tube amp with these effects seems pretty tempting.

The only immediate drawback I see now is that it’s a 40W amp, which sucks because that’s really loud for most of my stage use. My current amp is only 30 watts, and I can barely use it past 2 or 3 and that’s even too loud as it is. Ideally, a 15 watter (actually something less even) with the tone control and effects loop of these amps would be great but I think Line 6 may be onto something here.

Check out the amp at Line 6.
